T Shirt Tuesday

Welcome back T Shirt Tuesday.  For today's post I though I would show some very talented blogger's T Shirt conversions or upcycles.

My dear friend Jane from Lucky Sew and Sew posted this fantastic tutorial:

Great Job Jane - I want one!

This one from Kojodesigns is just too cute!  Makes me wish my kiddo was still that age.

I want one of each of these:

These all from Made it on Monday.  She is such a prolific designer and all of her projects are so cute and trendy.

I would be remiss if I left out Julie of from these hands.  Here is a fantastic tutorial detailing how to make these to-die-for roses.

in Lieu of T-Shirt Tuesday

Today in Lieu of T-shirt Tuesday, I am posting this Tuesday Trend report!  Last Friday, one of my BFFs and I went on an inspirational journey to Neimans.  We found so many awe-inspiring things that we challenged ourselves to make at least one thing from an inspirational piece.

Here are the garments I fell in LOVE with:
RED Valentino Ribbon & Lace Trim Slashed Tee
Red Valentino - this look is huge - lots of ribbon and trims laced through fabric.

RED Valentino Bow Trim Stripe Tee
Sheer with knit

Lafayette 148 New York "Bleeker" Stretch Cotton Cropped Pants
I must have a pair of these shoes!

Lafayette 148 New York "Corina" Tweed Jacket
This sleeve treatment

Nanette Lepore 'Bonus' Sleeveless Wrap Jacket
Vests and asymetrical hems

Nanette Lepore 'Big Boss' Blouse
loved this sheer blouse - I would make the sleeves slightly smaller

kate spade new york 'effie' blouse
This top is just too cute!  I plan to make it in navy

kate spade new york stripe bow jacket
This back bow treatment is EVERYWHERE!

Elie Tahari Exclusive for Nordstrom 'Pearson' Jacket

Check out the detail on this simple jacket.  Petersham trim on the front, shoulders and covered snaps.  Amazing what a few details can do to shuze up a plain jacket.  This was a knit fabric with denim and petersham trim.

These are just a few of the things we loved.  If I showed you all of the garments we wanted this blog would take up most of the internet!

T-Shirt Tuesday March 15, 2011

Today's T-Shirt is such a functional piece.  I wear it casually with a jeans jacket or dress it up with a black skirt and the ubiquitous strappy sandal.

                                                           Close up of the flowers

If you are a hand embroiderer, I know you recognize this flower as a spider web rose.
Here is a video featuring Trudy of Hot Patterns with a demo of how to make them.  The rose tutorial starts in the the 3 of 3 video. I put both in because I think they are great!

Now that I look at her video again, I see more Ts that I want to make!

The one thing I do differently than Trudy is I make my roses on a separate piece of fabric, and then apply them to the T.  I think they have more body with the extra fabric and seem to hold up better.

T-Shirt Tuesday

Welcome to another day of T-Shirt Tuesday.  I must say that today's T could be catorized as express as it was so easy and quick to make and yet one of my faves!

The color looks a little washed out - it is really a vibrant olive green.  I wanted some tops that had detail in the middle and not on a shoulder so that I could effortesly wear it with a sweater or jacket.  This one was inspired by an Anthropology T.

This is a better representation of the true color of the T.  First thing I did was cut off the sleeves to a 3/4.  I only had one T so I had to figure out how to embellish with just a small bit of fabric.

Next, I cut the 'cut off sleve' into strips from 3/4" to 1" in width.

Then I laid out the strips along the neck and twisted a few and interwove a few.

Last, I used the longest piece to cover the raw edge on the neck and Viola - quick T.

I pulled these two fabrics out of my stash and plan to make 'something' to match the T.

T-Shirt Tuesday

Kate Spade Cap Flower T $125

Today's T was inspired by this Kate Spade T.  I have not had a chance to visit Neiman's to see it up close and in person - so I just guessed at the construction.  I plan to take a road trip this week and may update my technique after.

This is my first version and I am so happy with how it turned out.  This is one of my bargain Ts from my last Target expedition.

Here is a close-up of the flower.  I used fabric from another T to create the flower.  It was a little limp - so after several experiments, I used my no fray spray and it gave the flower the body that it needed to stay and not flop over.

No Fray Spray

I found these jewels in my stash and added them to the neckline.  I think it gave it that little extra that the T needed.

I used a small piece of self fabric to the underside to the jewels to add stability.

I have two more of these 'flower' Ts in the works.  I am also working on a tutorial of how the make and assemble the flower.

T-Shirt Tuesday

Welcome to another day of T-Shirt Tuesday.  Today's T-Shirt was inspired by this 3.1 Phillip Lim T that I spied at Neiman Marcus.  I am so fortunate to live in the Northern VA area and have access to all the great museums.  Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom!  I call them my museums because I only look and read at the stores - rarely buy!

This little T was only $185

This is my version.  I must have a T with sleeves so again I went to Target and purchased my fave T.

As you can see the first trim is just plain cording with petersham covering the ends.  I had a pearl belt that I made years ago and never wore, so I cut it to the length I needed and tacked it on.

Close up of the neck

I added this little knot of petersham to the sleeves to give them a little more shape.

Hope you like my version for only $6.00.  That was the cost of the T, everything else I had in my stash!

T-Shirt Tuesday

Welcome to my second post of T-Shirt Tuesday

Sorry this one is a little blurry, I am still playing with flash vs no flash

I know you have seen this one on several blogs.  I saw it on one but cannot remember which one - so here is my version of the might ruffle T.  As usual I purchased two Ts from Target, one that fits and the largest one I could find.  Cut up the large one into 3" strips, gathered the strips, put the T that fit on Chesty and 'played' with the position of the strips until I liked the outcome.

I found these fantastic 'Mommy Bibs' on one of my faves Easy Peasy Grandma.  Check out her blog and the tutorial for these 'bibs'.  I plan to make several.  In my day we would have called these Dickie's.  Do you remember a Dickie?  Let me know if you do and what it looked like!

T-Shirt Tuesdays

New Weekly Post

I am going to commit to posting every Tuesday a new T-Shirt that I have completed.  Most of these will be inspired by J-Crew, Anthropology, other blogs, and occasionally an original idea.

This is one of the few original designs I wanted to show you. This design came to me when I was working on a top made out of the black & white knit.  The knit really curls so I decided to go with it and use two strips around the neck and an additional one for the serpentine.  This is a purchased t-shirt from Target. I love bows so I had to add a big one right on the shoulder!

For the cuffs I used a traditional French Cuff pattern and added the grommet circles from my scrap booking stash.

Happy Sewing,
Michele P
